Question: Stimulus checks…what if wrong amount?
My daughter is married with three children……they ‘should’ receive $2,100 on the stimulus check……BUT, when she went on irs.com, it told her they were getting back $1,500. We have read and reread the requirements and it states $300 for EACH child. Is there any phone number/email address that she can ask about this? We can’t find any.
WHERE did I say we were upset?? It is a question about receiving details, not complaining about the amount.
Answer: As Judy said, if your daughter and her husband did not pay at least $1200 in federal tax they will not receive the total $1200 for 2 married adults. If they have 3 children they likely received a child tax credit of $1000 per child when they filed their taxes, so they may not have paid any federal tax at all to begin with. Have them check their 1040 form on the 2nd page and look at tax paid after the child tax credit, if it is less then $600 that is why they only received $600 for them (their children got $300 each regardless payable to the parents) for a total of $1500. We have 4 children but paid over $1500 in federal tax, so our family got $2400 back. This is a rebate so you had to pay $1200 as a couple to get the full $1200 back.
