As I See It: Phrases that faze me (amaze me?)
There are so many things said by so many people that seem to be an excuse for saying something else. Are they meant to deliberately mislead? Do you have the same disbeliefs that I have? And so often, it usually comes in the form of a phrase. I will try to measure the real meaning of these phrases, be it fact or fiction. For example, “The check is in the mail.” Now we know that’s been the butt of …

IRS Child Tax Credit Form

Question: I am divorced with 2 minor children and my income is SSI, SSDI, and Temporary Assistance. I filed a tax form?
in order to get stimulus check. Was denied credit for children, yet told they were eligible. IRS said I didn’t provide half support for them, but I can’t report all my income, only SSDI. Is this correct?
Answer: The SSI and TANF don’t qualify as income for the rebates; only your SSDI does.
If you received at least $3,000 in SSDI and can claim the children under the Qualifying Child rule AND they are under age 17 as of Dec 31, 2007 then you’ll receive the base rebate of $300 for yourself plus $300 for each child.
You do NOT need to provide half support under the Qualifying Child rule. The ONLY support test there is that the child(ren) not provide more than half of their OWN support.

IRS Power Of Attorney Form
Question: if i’m given IRS Power of Attorney (form 2848) for someone am i liable for their debts?
if a indvidual gives me POA with the IRS using form 2848 and i make installment arrangement on their behalf am i liable for the payments? the individual does have some money to make the payments. you can assume i am not intentioanlly misleadin cheating, etc… the irs. we are not trying to dispute the amount, just trying to help an individual settle his back tax amounts for a couple years.
is there anything i should be concerned with?
thanks.
the TP was a self contractor so either did not pay enough quarterly or none at all, but did files tax forms.
Answer: Usually POA are for being able to call IRS and inquiry about filing tax returns, read the instructions on the POA, you will not be liable to pay the amount only file taxes or it also gives you permission for IRS to discuss the account for whatever year listed on the poa.
Is the amount owed because TP filed the tax return and ended up owing? Or is it because IRS sent ASFR (automated for substitute return) If it is for ASFR the TP still can filed his/her own return
To request installment agreement download form 9465 from the IRS website www.irs.gov you can request direct debit installment agreement and then you don’t have to worry about making the payments or remembering to mail the payment. IRS charges $52 user fee for DD or $105 if you mail the payment.
