Question: has anyone been audited?

i got a letter in the mail from the irs. i guess i’ve been or i am being audited. i have to file another schedule a and turn in receipts, etc. the only thing i don’t have is a copy of a lease. i lived and rented an apartment in one city and actually owned a house in another city about 125 miles away. so i wrote off my rent. what kind of penaties am i looking at?

Answer: never been auditied
when you wrote off the rent you paid, what exactly do you mean by that?
if you included the rent as part of a mortgage, your looking at fines and possibly jail time.
if you didn’t report the rent paid as income, you were right and not looking at fines or jail time.
your question is kinda confusing.
