Irs Audit Receipts

Question: IRS Audit possible?
I have filed my Taxes on 04/10/08 and also sent checkes along with those.
It is been more than a month but IRS didn’t cash my checks yet. Does it mean I am going to be audited?
It surprise me that none of my check (Fed, State, or Local) has been cashed yet. I contacted State Tax Dept and they told me that they received or Ack my paper on 04/22.
Really worried, as I may be missing some of the receipts.
Any help/suggestion will be appreciated.

Answer: An audit is always possible, but I wouldn’t be too concerned yet. It seems that they later that you file, the longer that it takes to process the return, especially when you mail the return. They would cash your check even if they were going to do an audit. Just relax, but if you want some additional reassurance just call the IRS, 800-829-1040. Just tell them that you want to make sure that they have received your return and your payment, because the check hasn’t been cashed.

Roth Ira IRS Form
Question: If one is contributing after-tax dollars to a roth ira, do they need to fill out any form with their taxes?
I’m talking about a regular $4000 contribution of after-tax money into an established roth ira account. I was under the impression that no reporting needed to be done since it’s not a taxable event, but someone told me otherwise. I think I’m right. But if I am right, then how does the IRS really know how many years you have contributed so they know whether or not the amounts in the account are correct?
Answer: The form that has to be filled out is for non-deductible contributions to a traditional IRA, not a Roth.
