IRS Online Job Simulation

Question: Government jobs and getting them?

I was wondering if anyone who has gone through the whole process of getting a government job (IRS, DOD, GSA, etc..) tell me the timeline for them. Like how soon after the closing date (and after the test if you have had to take them) do you get a notice of rating.

I have applied to 3 different IRS Jobs, one GSA job, and a DoD job. I am looking at applying into more. I would really want to work for the IRS though, I have even taken the online job simulation for the tax compliance officer job.

I have a Bachelors in Finance with a pretty decent GPA (3.3) and I am veteran. I really want to get a government job :( , seems like a logical step since I am prior military.

Answer: I think that you would get better, more accurate answers from the agencies that you applied to. I would inquire anonymously, if possible.

My father used to take Civil Service exams as a hobby; he worked for the state employment service. Unfortunately, he died n 1974, so I cannot ask him for an answer here.

2008 IRS Short Form

2008 IRS Short Form

Question: Do Not Miss April 15, 2008?

IRS will charge you interest and penalties if you don’t file your tax return and pay the taxes on time. If you are not in a position to pay full amount and file your taxes by the due date, you must act now. This is what you can do to reduce interest and penalty:
1. Pay as much as you can before April 15, 2008,
2. File form 4868 for extension to file,
3. Make a short term arrangement with IRS, and
4. Apply for installment arrangement.

To learn more about this, read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/irs-due-date-april-15-2008-for-those.html

Do you have any idea?

Answer: “Do you have any idea?”

Are you asking if I knew about the deadline? Yes, I did.

Late FILING is always more expensive than late PAYING. If you don’t have your tax return together in time, send in an extension for time to file form (form 4868), which will give you a new deadline of August 15th, 2008.

If you’re getting money back, the deadline is April 15th, 2011, after which, the IRS can legally not return any refund you have coming.

If you owe, the penalty is based on how much money is due. If you file late, the penalties increase.

IRS 1099 Form Instructions

Question: Can I use a P.O. Box as my address on a 1099 that I send to an independent contrator?

The IRS Instructions for Form 1099 says to put “PAYER’S name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, and telephone no.,” but does not specifically say whether I can or cannot use a P.O. Box. I prefer to not use my home address. Thanks
Since there are conflicting answers, please cite source or the experiene you’ve had which leads you to your answer. Thank you.
Esp., for instance, please tell me if you have been using a P.O. Box as your address on a 1099 that you send and there hasn’t been a problem. Thanks

Answer: A PO Box is an acceptable address for all IRS forms. I have been a CPA for nearly ten years and you will not have a problem with using a PO Box as your business address.
