IRS Uniforms

Question: what should i claim throughout the year on my paycheck ?
i am married my wife works and of course i work , we own a home we have 1 child together i as a law enforcement officer have some work related expenses such as uniforms , gun ,ammo
i would like a substantial refund but not too much meaning i dont wanna give the irs a interest free loan any advice on what i should claim on my paycheck as well what my wife should claim
the ammo i pay 4 skip is for training when i pratice to keep my shooting skills up which is deducible lol
Answer: Go to www.irs.gov and print out a couple of Forms W-4 (the link is on the left hand side of the page). Work them side by side – one for you and one for your wife. Do not bank on being able to claim anything for employment expenses as you have the 2% floor on your Adjusted Gross Income. Treat that as a wee bonus at the end of the year.
You are joking that a law enforcement officer has to buy his own ammo right? Surely. Are some authorities so tight? You, sir, deserve undying respect for doing a dangerous job whilst paying out of your own pocket for your own protection. The most dangerous thing in my job is a papercut.

Suicide pilot crashes into building in Texas housing IRS offices
Joe Stack, a software engineer and amateur bassist who had ‘ranted’ against the tax system, plows his small plane into a building in Austin housing IRS offices. One other person also dies. He was a 53-year-old software engineer who played bass in a local band and lived what by all appearances was a quiet suburban life here with his wife, who taught piano at home, and her young daughter. But, for …

Phishing IRS Refund

Question: How to spread the word about a new fake E-mail about the economic stimulus refund from the IRS?
I think this phishing scam is brand new; it asks people for their direct deposit info so they can get their economic stimulus refund faster. It looks so official, I’m afraid a lot of people could be fooled, especially because so many people are waiting so anxiously for this money. I don’t recall seeing a warning on this specific scam anywhere. I forwarded the e-mail to the IRS, but what is the best way to get the word out to the public ASAP?
Answer: There has been a lot about it here on the local news for weeks, so it is not new. Many are aware, but if you have friends or family that are not aware, let them know. Other than that, if it IS indeed one that is new, notify your local news media, they’ll cover it.
Email tax scam
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Scammers always come out right around tax time, and this tax season is no exception. Fake emails are going around claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. They even showed up at NBC12.
Gov IRS Tax Forms

Question: I calculated 2007 taxes on www.IRS.gov. I will be overpaying $2,777, but they are only paying back $400. Why?
—Quote from www.IRS.gov—
Based on the information you previously entered, your anticipated income tax for 2007 is $1,015. If you do not change your current withholding arrangement, you will have $3,792 withheld for 2007, resulting in an overpayment of $2,777 when you file your return. If you want your withholding to more closely match your anticipated tax, adjust your withholding on a new Form W-4 as follows:
For the only job you entered (which has a projected salary of $18,106): 1 allowance.
Check the “Single” box on your Form W-4.Assuming these recommended allowance(s) are in effect for the rest of 2007, your expected refund should be about $400. Following this recommendation will ensure that the amount withheld from your wages will cover all of your projected tax liability while minimizing your refund.
—End Quote—
Answer: This is saying that if you change your W2 at this time it will lower the amount of Federal Taxes taken out of your pay check over the next year. If you leave your W2 as it is now you would approx 2777.00 back if you change the withholding to a lower amount you would only have a 400.oo overpayment.
