IRS Release Of Information

IRS Release Of Information

Question: Federal Tax Lien issue on credit report?

Last year the IRS filed a $1,0000.00 tax lien against me and reported it on my credit. I finally got them paid off a few months ago and they have released the lien. On my credit, it now shows as a relased tax lien.

I have heard that sometimes, if you dispute some negative information on your credit report, a lot of times the reporting agency/company does not respond and it gets removed from your credit bureau file.

My question is: What would happen if I disputed the tax lien on my credit report. Considering the IRS has been paid and they have released the lien, what would they do?

Is there any hope of success in having it removed from my credit files, also would I be breaking any laws?

Please help!

One other thing, this released tax lien is the only negative mark on my credit.

Answer: No, the IRS Tax Lien will not drop off your credit report until seven years pass, and you may have to notify the credit bureaus after that elapsed time to stop reporting it. Tax liens, are not as damaging as other credit issues, but coupled with other bad credit they look worse. These type of liens are on public record and will actually never be removed from the court records, they just won’t be reported after seven full years. After about six months from when you paid it, your credit scores will hardly be effected at all. I have had several and that is all I ever have that was negative and my scores are close to 800. Don’t worry, just make sure you keep everything else up to date, and paid timely.

IRS Business Name Change Form

Question: Very late tax return. Should I file “No Tax Due” or “Stopped Business”?

I started my sole proprietor business on July 08. It’s a home based, I sell computer parts on eBay. I have EIN, but no employee. I made only $155 gross sale from June 1 – Aug 31, 08.

I received the letter of ST-100 form; New York Quarterly Sale and Use Tax Return on August. I didn’t realize how important is it. I’m new, this is my first time filling tax return. The due date was Sep 22.

Until Nov 21, I received the “Notice of Non receipt of Sale and use tax return”. Now that I truly understand how important is it, but I can’t afford that much fee. Estimated total of Penalty and Interest is as high as $250.

- Can I file “No tax due” ?
- Or what about if I choose to file “stopped doing business” ? And later could I form a sole proprietorship under my name?
- How does IRS find out if I only made $155? I received money via PayPal, is it acceptable proof?
- I changed address, if I report it, will I still have to pay the fee?

Answer: You should tell them everything. Then you don’t have to wonder if they understand your situation. File a return today. If you don’t have the money, tell them you will accept a payment plan.

Tracking My IRS Refund

Question: How do you track an old IRS refund that was never received?

My boyfriend never submitted his 2006 taxes, so last year in the beginning of 2007 we submitted them, hoping for the best, however we never received anything, and the refund was supposed to be around $1000. Just recently he received a state refund check of $21.00 from Mi for the 2006 tax year, which makes me think that the IRS actually did get his tax info, but I have no idea how to track it down to see if they actually did.
Does anyone know how to find this, and if I can do it online, or if he has to call the IRS and try to track it through them.

Thanks!

Answer: When the US Treasury realizes that your refund check has not been cashed, they will hold it for 12 months, if the check has not been claimed after that year, it goes to a department called “unclaimed property”.

I believe if you go to the IRS web site there is somewhere to click for unclaimed property. There is a form you must fill out to prove your identity and it takes about six months to get the check. It is there waiting for you………..good luck

The waiting game

Since 2003, taxpayers have been able to use the IRS’ ” Where’s My Refund? ” Web page to track down refunds directly from their own computers. But exactly when you need this service depends on how you filed your return. Processing times differ for paper and electronically filed 1040s.

Calling IRS

Calling IRS

Question: Has anyone called the IRS about what everyone is saying is a glitch?

I asked in another question about my status on where’s my refund because it said it was deposited on the 23rd…I was just wondering if anyone has called the IRS to see why it says that if it has not been.

Answer: No.If everyone had called the IRS then they wouldn’t be on here stating lies trying to cause a general panic now would they?
