IRS Status Of Refund

Question: what should irs refund status say if I requested direct deposit?

Currenlty is says that it was “mailed” out on March 17th, 2006. Does this mean that they aren’t depositing it? Rather, I have to wait longer to get it by mail?

Answer: If it was “mailed” on 03-17-2006, then they have mailed a check. Possible reasons are that for some reason the bank wouldn’t accept the direct deposit (not likely), or you may have transposed a number in your bank routing number and/or account number (could be likely) or the IRS goofed (very likely). If you don’t get your check by next Friday, 03-24-2006, I’d give the IRS a call; contact numbers can be found at www.irs.gov.

State IRS Refund Status

Question: My income tax refund…!!!?

Ok, I had filled out my income tax refund electronically ok, for some reason it took almost 5 weeks for the IRS to deposit directly into my bank account, I’m from Illinois and they supposely have to refund STATE and FEDERAL, but, what’s really weird for me is that my bank account showed me yesterday that a deposit has been done and that deposit says * state of ill tax refund **, BUT that’s it. Now the IRS refund status part says ***Your return has been or will be processed on or around March 20, 2009 and your refund will be deposited directly into your account. Please review your bank statement or check with your financial institution to verify receipt ***……I dont understand, we’re the 21st today and my bank account still have the STATE tax refund only. Will they deposit the FEDERAL refund later on???? or should I call the IRS and ask them?…thanks

Answer: If you e-filed your tax return and requested that the tax refund be directly deposited in your bank account, the IRS states you should have your tax refund within a 3 week period. If you chose to file a paper tax return and asked the check be mailed to you, expect a wait of up to 8 weeks to get your tax refund.

The IRS has an easy and secure website where you can track down your tax refund. The website is titled “Where’s My Refund?”. You can get tax refund information for the most current tax year that you have filed. You can also get prior year tax refund information.

You will need to enter the following information:

+ Social Security Number
+ Filing Status (Single, Married, etc.)
+ Tax Refund Amount – exact whole dollar amount shown on your tax return.
