Question: Problem with Economic stimulus package — irs address or any other option?
I filed my 2007 taxes as married filing jointly, I recieved my ssn in 2006, before that I used an ITIN(income tax identification number). My husband has his ssn for several years now. I know that you need a valid ssn to recieve the stimulus package, but for some reason even though we filed right with a ssn in 2007 the irs did not send us our check. I called them a few times, but if you’ve ever tried reaching them its like holding the line forever and then they disconnect you saying that there is too high call volume. When I checked online they say that I have a itin which makes me ineligible, however that is not the case, I do have a ssn. I’m certain of our eligibility to receive the payment, could someone help as to which address I could send a letter to irs stating my case. Is there any other option for those people who are eligible but havent received their payment.
Answer: You could try taxpayer advocate. http://www.irs.gov/advocate/article/0,,id=97395,00.html explains if you qualify.
