IRS Information Phone Number

IRS Information Phone Number

Question: Does anyone have an IRS phone number to talk to someone live about the stimulus rebates?

I have not received any notice and the online rebate status system just tells me no specific information is available.
I really appreciate the answers. I will try the 800 number after 10am this morning. If not open, I will give them a call Tuesday. Thanks again and Happy Memorial Day.
The 800 number works. The would not specifically look up my records but told me it takes at least 8 weeks from the time your return is received by the IRS until it is ready for rebate processing. We did not send our return in until early April, so I will probably not know anything specific until mid-June or so.

Answer: Bostonianinmo’s response is correct. However, it may be useful to call to see if the return has been processed or if the qualifications are met.

Reciprocity’s comment is not correct. The IRS has thousands of employees answering questions specifically related to the rebate. I know because I’m one of them. The number is 1-800-829-0582, extension 726. The phone lines are open today from 10-3.

Complying with Census 2010, protecting against scams

Question: What evidence must I submit for the American Opportunity Credit?

This is the first year I am not using the 1040EZ and I am going to be claiming the American Opportunity Credit. I am using form 1040A and am also submitting the 8863 form. I have read through numerous documents and instructions on the IRS website, but I still have not found which documents I need to submit as evidence. I heard (although I am not sure whether it is correct) that I do not need to submit the 1098-T doc sent to me from my college. What documents will need to be sent then? Does a printout of my college financial account suffice? I feel clueless as to the supporting documentation needed. Help!

Answer: You don’t submit supporting documentation with your return. If the IRS wants to see anything they’ll ask for it. Then receipts would be good.
