Question: IRS code 1301- Tax Return Delay?
Looked on Irs web site to find out details about my return and it said that I should receive a refund by May 20 if no errors,etc…. After May 20 arrived and still no refund; I decided to call the Irs and speak with a rep who said that my return had been sent to the error dept and would try to be corrected . The rep said that if any additional info was needed they would contact me. The main thing that bugs me is that they had the return for at least 15 days in the error dept and I have not been notified as of yet. As far as I recall, everything has been reported above board as I received K-1 income that was reported on line 17 of my 1040 form. The only thing that I can think of is I claimed an EITC exemption for my children that might be disallowed because I am self employed and received other income that might not be considered as earned income.Why are they holding up my return? It seems that there computer should be able to correct this fast.
Answer: It takes 6-12 weeks to process tax returns, that is 6-12 weeks from the date IRS stamps your return as received. the returns are sent to examiner by received date. and then input into the IRS system. IRS processes return Monday thru Friday only. When input into the system and errors are found then the return is routed to another department and they start processing the return. So you will have to wait a while before you receive anything from the IRS. Since you have an idea why the delay then that could be it. IRS will send you a letter shortly. And don’t forget IRS still has thousand and thousand of returns they are processing.
