Federal IRS Phone Number

Federal IRS Phone Number

Question: Tax Refund Delayed, Why?

The where’s my refund page said I was to recieve my refund on Feb 17th 2009. Which from prior experience I ALWAYS get my federal on fridays before the date they gave me. I want to know why they changed the date to the 24th of Feb now. I dont have any back taxes or debt. Is there any way I can find out why from the IRS??? All of their phone numbers say this is an automated hotline ONLY their is no live operators at this number. Please I would like to know why it is delayed and where i can go to check.
UPDATE: Ok I called a number about 14 different times with different options. I FINALLY got ahold of someone and they said “There was an error in processing your refund. It was corrected, check the website Monday and you should have your refund by friday.” Thank you for all your help guys and girls. I liked all of your answers.

Answer: What did you or your tax preparer put in the field that asked about the stimulus you received last year? If you put anything less than the maximum amount your refund will be delayed, while the IRS manually checks what you received versus what you said you received. This has been the major cause in delays of tax refunds. Most are being delayed by a week. You should have your refund on the 20th. The IRS date allows a couple of days for processing by your bank, but most banks do not take that long. If you don’t think this is the problem, call the IRS to check. The number is 800-829-1040.

The IRS said it has been inundated with an unprecedented number of calls the past two years from taxpayers with questions about temporary tax breaks passed by Congress to help revive the economy — a phenomenon that is expected to continue this year.

1099 IRS Tax Form

1099 IRS Tax Form

Question: What happens if you forget to add a 1099 income form to your taxes after you filed already.?

Ok, so I filed my taxes electronically already and then I get in the mail another 1099 form, which decreases my refund after I input it into my software program. I know I need to ammend my return, but in the meantime, what does the IRS do? Do they still go forward with electronically giving me a refund? Or is it stuck in limbo until I file and the IRS processes the ammended return?

Answer: Just let the original return run its course and take the check. Then file your amended return. Write a check for the difference and send it to the IRS. But file your amended return as soon as possible to avoid interest.
