Irs Mail Audits

Question: Help! I screwed up on my taxes and mailed it to IRS? How do I stop it before it reaches them?
I’m afraid it will cause an audit if I don’t. I mailed it from Northern Nevada to Fresno today.
Answer: Just send them an “amended” tax return. I did that last year and they fixed it right away and got the correct refund (it was less). It was no problem.

You probably don’t mean to violate the law or invite hassles with the IRS, but ignoring simple, common-sense guidelines could get you into trouble.

IRS Nc State Refund
Question: if i owe back state taxes. can the irs withold my refund?
I owe back taxes to nc and they have been garnishing my wages. can they take my federal refund?
Answer: I called the IRS about this because I’m in the same boat.
This is what they told me.
Since my account is still “open” with them, they will not garnish from me and my wife’s refund that we are due next week. They were still showing that the account was still open so we will get our full refund on Friday.
I was notified in August of 2007 that I owe them $800 from 2005. I am not disputing it and have told them I will pay it once I get my refund.
They only way they would have taken out what I owe them and given us the difference is if my account with them was showing what I owe them instead of showing a zero balance and being active still.
Hope this helps.

Audit Protection Service

Question: Ever Hear of Pre-Paid Legal Services?
About a month ago, I signed up with this company called Pre-Paid legal. They supposedly help you resolve almost any legal problem you may have. They’ve been in business for over 30 years, are top notch on the NYSE for the last 5 years and I have friends that have used the service. I’m looking to see if anyone else has used them for Legal services, Motor Vehicle issues, Trial Defense, IRS Audits or Credit Protection? I mean, I only pay $24 a month for the service and it does cover my whole family. I have them clearing up 2 incidents for me now. I bought something online for $826 and never received it and I’m also suing someone for $1500. So,I have them working on it for me, but I’d like to know if anyone has used them and what the final outcome was? And how long it took for resolution. I found the service on the web and my friend uses them. www.prepaidlegal.com/go/slpadula
Answer: I signed up with them about a year ago paying $24/month. Actually there pretty good. I do plan to become a Business Associate with them as well. I’ve only used them to help with my Will and a couple of minor legal issues. These are top notch lawyers that they have and definatly recommend them to anyone. I look at it this way, why not pay $24/month and have your family covered in case anything happens to you and not pay additional money than not to have it all, and pay thousands in retainer plus high hourly fees for a lawyer.
