Question: Taxes going to wrong address?

My husband and i did our taxes with Jackson Hewitt. We got our federal taxes deposited into a card but the state taxes and the stimulus check were to be mailed to us. Well we haven’t received our state check so i called the irs office and they check to see if it went to the right address. The address was right but the city was wrong thats why we didn’t get it, so i fixed that and thats solved. But what i dont understand is why the lady that did our taxes put a different city if we showed her our IDs with our address and other papers with our address. Now Im worried our stimulus check has the wrong address and we aren’t going to get it. What can I do?

Answer: You are right to worry.
Your call to IRS should have corrected your address with them but you could also send them a Form 8822 – Change of Address.
It is available for download from www.irs.gov

You will also need to contact your state department of Revenue and correct your address with them.

When IRS sends out a check that for some reason cannot be delivered. The check is returned to IRS and they wait till they hear from the taxpayer. – when IRS has the corrected address they will issue a new check.

I’s also complain loudly to the manager at the Jackson Hewitt office – at the least they should offer you a discount on doing next year’s taxes – if you are brave enough to return there again.
