Question: IRS gave us wrong stimulus amount, help!?

Last year the IRS only gave us $600. We are a family of four. Initially when we received the money I thought it was correct because on the IRS website it stated that we could get UP to $1200 for a family of four. After filing our returns for 2008 it was discovered that we were indeed supposed to receive $1200 for our stimulus check. When I called the IRS to ask about it, they said in their computers it shows $1200 was deposited in May. Only $600 was deposited. He said to fill out form 3911 as found on irs.gov website. That form has nothing to do with my situation and I don’t know what to do from here. Please help!!
Yes, the mistake was on IRS end. The government screws up stuff all the time…example: the new stimulus bill (lol) yes, I have a bank statement showing only$600, and it is the only bank we have ever used with our taxes. And about form 3911, I guess I’m just confused because of the wording. This form looks like it should be filled out on their end.

Answer: You should have a bank record of the deposit, from the IRS, with the bank receipt. Check online, they should have the deposit date and the sender listed. Print the online record of the deposit, showing that it’s from the IRS, or use a copy of your bank statement if it’s obvious there. Call the IRS back and tell them that you have written proof that they didn’t send you the whole amount. Ask them who you can send it to, so that you can get the rebate for your missing $600.

IRS One Year Rule

IRS One Year Rule

Question: irs tax question..if i had a baby at the end of the year, does the 6 month rule apply for child tax credit &.?

can I file head of household? It says the child has to live with you for for then 6 months, he will only be 5 months old at the end of the year. I know Earned income credit allows you to claim him if he was born anytime before Dec 31st, does the same apply for filing head of household and child tax credit. I cant find this info on their website. thanks

Answer: If your child is born in the tax year, it counts for the whole year. Do not put 5 months, put 12 months (this is in the instructions).

You are qualified for EIC, HoH, child tax credit, Additional child tax credit, etc., as long as you meet the other qualifications.

IRS 125 Regulations

Question: Where can I find a legally-valid Section 125 POP Cafeteria Plan template that complies with IRS regulations?

I am looking for a FREE template – I am aware of the online kits for purchase and the possibility of contacting an employment specialist lawyer.

Answer: Search using google, yahoo, etc.
You have to pay for it. This is big business for lawyers.
Ask for references.

Finance and Banking

The best thing we can say about this edition of Tax Talk is that, from the standpoint of the global capital markets, things are not as bad as they were a year ago. When we published our Q4, 2008 issue, the financial world, it seemed, stood at the edge of economic collapse.

Question: my husband have a bad credit, can he applied for a gov job (not IRS)?

Hey J, at least I speak more than one language.

Answer: I don’t think bad credit is an issue for obtaining a government job. What is at issue is his background as far as education, jobs, and his performance on his previous jobs. Also most government jobs administer tests to see if your husband would be competent in his field. As long as his health is good and he can pass the test, I don’t believe his bad credit would hinder him. If he has a felony, however for check fraud, etc., that might prevent him from working for the government. Toni D. (a senior lady)
