IRS Center Addresses

Question: Tax problems, What are my options?

I worked for a call center in Tulsa Oklahoma, I didn’t do a change of address when I moved to Missouri (because i’m an idiot), now my W-2 is lost somewhere. I lost all of my paperwork from the call center during the move. And all of the phone numbers at the call center are not listed anywhere. I called IRS, and in order for them to be able to do anything I need an address, but I don’t know that either. Any ideas?
Well, I made friends……but, I only worked there for 4 months, and just stopped talkin to all of them when I moved, and I had a cricket phone when I was there….They don’t have cricket in Missouri……So I sold my phone back to them (again, cuz i’m an idiot)

Answer: At this point your employer should have filed their W-2′s with the IRS, but it takes the IRS a year to process all the W-2′s – therefore, they need the employer information because they can’t find it based on your social security number…

One option (not the best option) would be to file based on what information you do have and then wait about 9 months. Fill out a 4506-T and request a transcript of your W-2′s. This will give the IRS time to process your W-2 and then they can find it based on your social security number. Once you have the transcript you can file an amended return.

The problem with this option is that the IRS may find the W-2 before you request the transcript and send you a love letter… The other problem is that you might not have had enough withholding and you may end up up owing…

If you’ve changed your home or business address, make sure you update that information with the IRS to ensure you receive any refunds or correspondence from the IRS.
