Question: A question about irs form 1040!!?
i lost my irs form 1040 for the year 2006. i need to get a hold of it for fafsa.can anyone tell me how to get it as soon as possible?
Answer: You can contact the IRS by phone or in person to request another copy of your 1040 OR request a tax transcript (NOT an account transcript) which will have all your tax information, too.
The toll free number is 1-800-829-1040. To find a local IRS office, visit their web site at www.irs.gov.
Visiting their office in person may require a long wait, but you can receive the tax return or tax transcript in the same day, whereas by phone you will have to wait for them to mail it to you.
And remember in the future, ALWAYS keep copies of your tax returns for at least 5 years!
IRS Has $1.3 billion for people who have not filed a 2006 tax return
Nearly $10 million is waiting for 12,200 Iowans who did not file a federal tax return for 2006, the Internal Revenue Service announced.
