Question: Would the IRS ever contact you via e-mail…?

…regarding a refund?

This weekend I received 2 e-mails (from different addresses) from the IRS stating that I am entitled to a refund. The amount of the refund was different in the 2 e-mails. I e-filed my taxes months ago and have aready received the refund of the amount shown on my return.

The e-mail said to fill out the attached form, which asked for social security number, contact info, and either credit card numbers or bank account info.

I’m going to call the IRS office when I get off work. I just wanted to get some other opinions.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too, ticktock. Makes me wonder how many other people actually fell for this though.
I found an e-mail address on the IRS website to report fraudulent e-mails.

Answer: NO WAY will the IRS ever ask for personal information through an email! DO NOT SEND THEM ANYTHING!

Edit: I know, it’s sad, but some people do fall for it. I remember reading an article about this somewhere and Snopes.com confirmed it is a false email. Of course, I can’t find that article now. Sorry.
