Call IRS For Ein

Question: What happens if you think there is a misprint on your W2 and you have already e-filed?
I noticed that on my W2 that the EIN number is the same as the state id number. I have already efiled my federal but not my state. Will the IRS reject it, and I have to amend it or will it affect only my state? I am going to call the company tomorrow and ask if it is correct although I am almost certain it is wrong because my W2 for last year shows a different number. Anyone else had this problem?
I think I need to clarify and say that my EIN is correct, and it is the state id number wrong.
Thanks to all that replied. After I saw it, I was scared I was going to have to go through the hassle of amending it, and I am one of those people who likes to do things early and have them out of the way! If I owe money, I want to know how much right then lol. My mind is eased now.Answer: Generally speaking, the IRS will take your figures and process your return. Within 2 years of filing your return (actually by 1 year), they will compare the W-2′s filed by the company and sent to A) IRS and B) the State jurisdiction and compare the two..
If you amounts do not match your social security number, you will likely receive a notice that asks for you to clarify the discrepancy.
What you need to do is make sure that the employer’s E.I.N. number is reported in the right place and your SS# is in the right place. Quite often, the State I.D. number is just the company’s E.I.N.# which is used for State purposes and there is nothing for you to do. In fact, this is almost always the case in the State of NJ.
If the employer’s E.I.N. number or your Social Security number is incorrect, you need to call the company and have them file an ammended W-2 to correct this error. However, you are not required to file an ammended return unless numerical numbers have changed for your salary or withholding amounts.
I hope this is helpful.
