Question: SSN to file for income tax?
If I paid someone taking care of my baby and pay cash with no receipt and I will claim for child care deduction on my tax return, and provide name, address and SSN of the babysitter as required by IRS, how do I know if the SSN of the babysitter is a good number or not. She did not let me see her SSN card personally, she just tell verbally over the phone, what if the number that I provided on my tax return from the babysitter is not a valid SSN. Will I be getting in any trouble with the IRS? Is it my resposible to make sure her SSN is a valid one? Thanks
Answer: If she is planning on reporting the income and kee watching everyones children then she probably gave you the correct number. If she does not claim it and pay taxes you will not be in trouble, she will and you may lose your sitter. Some private sitters file it and some do not, lets just hope your sitter really does.
