8000 IRS Tax Credit Form
Question: $8000 new home owners tax credit?
I just have a couple questions about this new tax credit and I’m hoping someone can help
1) We are closing on a house in april Can we still get the money this year or do we have to wait until we file taxes new year?
2) Can we fill out the form on the irs website and send it in or does a tax person need to do it.Can someone help and maybe explain more. Has anyone been through the process yet?
also I’m married and i filed seperatley. Does that affect anything???
ok since we did file seperate does that mean that we each can get $4000 which with equal $8000 or is it just $4000 total for both.Answer: If you are Married Filing Separately, you can claim max of $4000 of the credit if you AND your spouse qualify. Now since you are married, both you and your spouse must not have owned a home within the 3-year period even if you filed as separate.
You can claim this credit either on your 2008 tax return or 2009 tax return if you and your spouse satisfy all requirements.
