W-2 forms are arriving in mail boxes this week. January 31st was the deadline for employers to mail them, signaling the start of tax season. As part of KERA’s weekly Economy Segment, BJ Austin reports on some new tax credits and deductions that could put money in taxpayers’ pockets.

I want to do my own taxes, not e-file it. However, can I print out the forms from the IRS website and use those instead of going out of my way to one of the IRS office and pick those booklets that has forms in it?

Answer: You bet. That’s what they are there for.
You’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the forms/booklets if you don’t have it already.
All the forms/instruction booklets are available to prepare your taxes.

IRS office in Plantation to be open Saturdays

The Internal Revenue Service’s walk-in office in Plantation will be open on Saturdays during tax season to provide assistance to people who might need help but are not able to come during normal, weekday business hours, the government office said.

My daughter under 18 received some inherited IRA distribution (received 1099-R form). I plan to file IRS form 8814 but not sure if the money is considered as Taxable interest (line 1a in form 8814) or Ordinary dividend (line 2a in form 8814)? Thanks, I will have more question later.

Answer: It’s neither interest nor dividends, so 8814 is inappropriate. Your daughter needs to file her own return to report this distribution.

Question: Can anyone tell me what reference code 1121 means and HOW long now will I have to wait to get my MONEY!!!?

Soooo…. Up until today, my status has been your refund was dd on 1/30. It wasn’t of course and I have been waiting patiently thinking maybe it was held up a week etc… Today my status is the there is a delay in processing call the IRS with reference number 1121 etc… SO I called them, I had ALREADY called Monday and was told my return HAD indeed been deposited, and the guys says… It is under manual review, you will receive a cp whatever in the mail explaining why. THAT IS IT!!! Not why, not how, not when am I going to get my money… So… THANK YOU TO THE IRS because now, tomorrow my power and phone will be shut off. I already put it off an additional week since nothing showed up last week. My rent is now 5 days late. I lost my job in October and am still fighting unemployment and NOW I have NO savings left… And we wonder why the f*ck*ng economy is the way it is!!!

Answer: I know how you feel, cause I actually had all these codes showed up last year. Only because i was randomly selected for my return to be looked at manually. I received a letter in the mail in about a week, then you have to send them copies of your w-2’s to prove your income and with holdings are correct. Once they receive those, then you should get a refund a couple of weeks after that which the process usually takes about 4-5 weeks…

The Internal Revenue Service is looking to return $538,590 in undelivered refund checks to Iowans. The average check is $955. A total of 564 people in the state are due one or more refund checks that could not be delivered because of mailing address errors, and six of these individuals live in Boone.
