IRS Registered Letter

Question: Married 9/08, found out he owes $40 thou in back taxes?
Assets he brought into marriage = a few pieces of furniture. We are in NC. Can the IRS levy my home, (no equity, my mortgage), my wages or my furniture, etc? Will they consider me responsible since I married him? He is talking with an attorney friend, states his ex wife has signed for the registered letters and tossed them. Please tell me the IRS has grace in the situation of an innocent spouse, who should have done a background check.
Answer: Someone didn’t check someone credit history or do a background check before marrying. Now a days not a good idea, always check everything out.
Okay if you state your husband owes IRS, then you state his ex tossed the certified letters, then your husband doesn’t owe IRS yet the certified letter were LTR3219C giving him 90 days to file his returns, and if he doesn’t file within the 90 days the IRS will file for him and then he more than likely will owe the $40K
Have him call IRS immediately at 1-800-829-0922 or 1-800-829-7650 or or 1-800-829-8374 or visit his local IRS office to find out exactly what the certified letter were about. He can always file his returns even if IRS files for him.
Have “him” call IRS. If you do file joint returns with him then IRS will offset any refunds and apply to his account. IF you don’t file joint returns then they will not take your refund.

I am using H and R Block and would like to efile since I already paid
Answer: You will have to paperfile. If the employer is a new employer (new EIN) the IRS will not allow efiling of that return as that issue was a scam a few years back.

Utah IRS Jobs

Question: Should I accept a temporary job offer with the IRS in Utah?
I have no place to stay in Utah, so I would have to arrange for housing. All I need is a room, really. A cheap motel with weekly rates would work, if I can find such a place in Ogden, Utah. The job is working in the mail room for $12.00 an hour.
The job will last a maximum of thirty days, after which I will be unemployed again. I will be able to draw unemployment after the job ends, I think.
I have no other job offers at this time. I am not broke, but my savings are diminishing. The IRS job of course could be somewhat hazardous. Think about it. Opening mail at the IRS.
Disgruntled, crazy taxpayers. Who knows what they might send.I am currently staying with relatives in Texas and have no real housing expense here, so I would not be paying rent in two places. It’s a 1500 mile drive to Ogden, Utah and I need to be there by 4:00 pm on Monday.
What it comes down to is this: Should I drive 1500 miles for about 1500 dollars, plus maybe 3 grand in unemployment?
Answer: It is up to you. Ogden is a good city lots of things to do here. We do have cheep hotels in which you could stay. Good luck on either decision that you make.
