IRS W2 Form Instructions

Question: IRS 1040 forms & instructions?

This may seem like a dumb question but I don’t know anything about taxes. All of my tax stuff goes to my grandmas house & she brought the IRS 1040 forms & instructions, she always does my taxes for me. Since I got this book does that mean that she got my W2(not sure if that is what she fills out & sends in)?
So I dont need to do anything with the 1040?

Answer: No, it does not mean that.

The book is sent automatically to whatever address was indicated on the forms filed the previous year, even if there is no W-2.

IRS Forms And Instructions 2009

Question: Can I claim the recovery rebate/stimulus package even after filing this years return?

My situation is this:
2008: Last year, (2008) I filed as an Non-resident, even though I qualified as a resident. I understand that there was a stimulus package, which I did not receive, since I filed as a non-resident.
Circa 2009: From what I understand (after reading the instructions on the IRS web-site), people who did not claim the stimulus package last year are eligible for the recovery rebate. This can be obtained by filing out 1040 this year and claiming the rebate on line 70.
Now the problem. This year I made the same mistake (filing as a non-resident, form 1040 NR-EZ). I already received the refund from the Federal government.
My question: Can I amend my Federal tax for this year (file out 1040). If so, what do I do of the refund received.

Thanks all.

Answer: You can file an amended return, Form 1040X, within three years of the original due date to receive an add’l refund, if eligible. I am not 100% certain if your specific situation is amendable, but if your are eligible for a refund it’s in your interest to file a 1040X (which you will have to mail to the IRS).

You can download the Pdf 1040X and the address to send it to @ irs.gov. If you have any add’l questions I suggest you contact the IRS either by phone or you can goto a local office in your area to verify how to proceed.
