Question: If I don’t get this resolved, I might have a nervous breakdown.?
My husband and I have been using this lady to do our taxes for 5 yrs now. Recently we were audited. She told us to sign power of attorney papers that will allow her to deal with all of our tax concerns. We did. We sent her our 2007 tax info. a couple months ago, and now we can’t get ahold of her!! She lives a couple hours away, and we’ve been calling her every single day, leaving a message asking her to return our calls, and she never does! I’ve sent 2 certified letters to her with our concerns. She signs for them, but never gets in touch with us. We are really freaking out, because the tax deadline is coming up, we still have this audit that we’re trying to deal with, and if she is our power of attorney with everything, then that means she’s now receiving documents from the IRS that are ours, right? What should we do?
Answer: Contact IRS and ask if documents and letters have been sent to her instead of you. Look at your copy of last year’s return and get the preparer’s ID #. Record every time you attempt contact, use your phone bills etc. Keep the paperwork from the post office. Next I would get a consultation with an attorney. Most are free for the initial consultation. This will give you a better idea of how to deal with this person. Your taxes may be under control and she is really swamped at this time of year, but it it inexcusable not to return a call. Oh, find another tax person or do your own from now on.
Is it possible that you owe her money?

IRS Ss-8 Form
Question: TurboTax is telling me to Prepare and File Form SS-8 for 1099-MISC I got from my employer…Do I?
So here’s the deal:
Employer gave me a nice bonus. Yay me! January I received a W-2 and a 1099-MISC (for the bonus) from the employer. Went to fill out my taxes on TurboTax, got to the 1099 part, and now TurboTax says to continue I need to Prepare and File Form SS-8 and send it to the IRS…is that right? Do I do this?No taxes were taking from the 1099, and the employer filled out line 7. Is that even right? should line 3 have been filled out instead?
HELP! I hate taxes! and have no clue what to do….
Someone suggested filling out a schedule C instead….is that possible? or do I have to do the SS-8?Answer: What an employer! Any type of bonus, paycheck, anything coming from your employer should have the taxes taken out. Since they did not do that, it is up to you to pay the taxes on it. Yea you!
Advice: Which tax form do you need, 1099 or W2?
How to tell whether you need a 1099 or a W2 at tax time. Also: Making employees want to stay. Dear Karen: Nearly 80% of my revenue comes from one company on a 1099 basis. Will the IRS consider me that company’s employee?

Texas IRS Forms

Question: Self employment tax question…?
I am confused. I have been reading off of the IRS site and their instructions for filing self employed and estimated taxes… But I still am not sure quite how to do it.
What forms do I need to fill out? How do I figure how much I need to pay, and how do I pay it?
I was kinda forced into opening up my own part time janitorial business. I am a sole proprietor and since Jan 1st I have been making $1495 a month, and I need to know how to do this stuff, but the IRS website isn’t giving me all the information I need, or at least it isn’t “dumbing it down” enough for me. =/
I only have 6 more days, help me!!
(btw, I live in Texas)
Answer: File a schedule C to report your earnings and expenses. The net amount will then be used to calculate the SE tax using form SE. That’s the general flow. If you have to do this quickly and you’re still confused, I would run out and buy the H&R Block home software. They will carry you through the process in an interview format and fill in the correct forms. Otherwise, refer to the IRS website for instructions. You will need to file a sch C, sch SE, and the numbers from both will go to your 1040.

Ss-8 IRS Form
Question: What should I do if my employer treated me as an independent contractor when I should have been an employee?
I know about form SS-8 with the IRS. Is that the best way to resolve this situation? Will I have to go to court? Fixing it with my employer is unfortunately not an option.
I was suppose to sign something about being a subcontractor when i started 9 months ago but it was never signed. Either was my W-9 for or my Employment Eligibility Verification. The reason why i know i am an employee is that i work 8-5 m-f in his office on all of his equipment. I answer the phones. run the errands. All of my expenses are reimbursed to me. I pick up his kid a few times a month. I get coffee for our clients. The list of tasks that he gives me goes on and on. Not to mention that i receive vacation time payout and sick days along with Holiday pay. I really dont believe i an a sub contractor when i do all of these tasks along with QuickBooks, Emails, News Letters, Banking……
Answer: Another common reason employers treat their agents as independent contractors is to avoid liability. An employer can be liable for the acts of an employee as if the employer did the act itself and that is not the case with an independent contractor generally. I also agree with and have the same question as the last post. Also, what do you mean by ‘fix.’ Is it a tax issue? If you cannot go to the employer, then there are regulatory agencies like the state employment department that may be able to help you.
Am I an employee or a contractor?
By not withholding taxes, your bosses avoid payroll taxes and the cost of complying with tax rules.
