2008 IRS Extension Form

Question: Extension on W2 form?
I had to quit my job at the beginning of February and by the end of the month I hadn’t received my W2 form yet. I called my boss and he said he would mail it. The IRS website says to allow for “adequate” time for the W2 form to arrive by mail to your house. I waited until April 1, went back to my former boss, who said he had already mailed it and would mail it again. It’s now April 6 and I still have not received my W2 form.
I’m a 20 year old college student and only worked from December – February of 2008/9. What can I do to get an extension? The day it comes in the mail I’m going to have it filed, but I’m not sure if it will be here by the 15th.
I don’t know much about filing taxes, only that they should be filed by April 15th.
I live in Florida, if that matters
Answer: What you are supposed to do is file an extension, Form 4868 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf , an pay whatever tax you may owe, if any. If you don’t owe any money, there is no penalty for filing late.
Or, you could file with a substitute for W-2 if you don’t think your ex-boss will come through with the W-2 (needed to be mailed by Feb 2 this year).
Form 4852. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4852.pdf
You should call IRS first and give them the name, address of the employer and approximate amount earned, so they can pursue it on their end.

Question: IRS Tax Form 1099 – Misc, I work for a company answering phones and dealing with costumers, and I got a 1099.?
My parents filed me under dependent because I’m a full time student and they pay for almost everything for me. Now I recieved this 1099-Misc from one of my previous employeers from last year for a total of 4,000 do I have to report this? and if so how do I file this I already tried turbotax and once I put in the wages from the 1099 It said I would have to pay close to $500 and I dont know if this is right, but I think its too much to pay for 4000 that I earned doing secretary work.
Only box 7, has the 4,000 ammount under nonemployee compensation.
Answer: IRS.GOV has a form you can file if you were misclassified as a contractor. You weren’t a contractor they can’t control a contractor that much as they would control you. They were taking advantage of you being young and not wise enough to even know what you were being paid. Or they think you knew you didn’t have anything withheld and would like that and not know what it meant.
You would pay 14.3% self employment tax plus your income tax if you are a contractor. Check your pay stubs to see if they withheld tax from your pay.

2008 IRS Forms

Question: 2008 IRS Tax Form 1040A, Line 26?
Line 26 of Form 1040A states “If line 22 is over $119,975, or you provided housing to a Midwestern displaced individual, see page 32. Otherwise, multiply $3500 by the total number of exemptions claimed on line 6d.” Can someone please interpret this? Does the $3500 figure apply to everyone or just people who make more than the listed amount or housed a Midwestern displaced individual? I don’t know if I should subtract the $3500 from my income or not to figure my taxable income.
Answer: Dear Mr. H: Line 26 is your number of exemptions times $3500. If you were in the Midwest disaster area you would calculate additional. If you are single subtract $3500 from income. Everyone gets the exemption amount unless you are claimed by your parents.

1040x IRS Forms
Question: if you send your 1040X Tax Form in July 2007, how long will it take for the IRS to send it to me?
all the corrections are correct. I sent it to Kansas City, Missouri from St. Louis Missouri.
this week is the 6th week and I checked on the IRS site and they still didnt process it.
sent my 1040x on July 16th, 2007
Answer: I sent my amendment in mid July and still have not heard anything either. My accountant said when you check the IRS site, it doesnt include amended returns. He said if it ends up being 3 months and I still havent recieved anything to call the IRS, but he said to wait almost 4 months just in case, because the IRS isnt very helpful when it comes to amendments because they arent tracked well. I am still hoping for an earlier than 3 months. Good Luck! Lets hope we get our money soon!
