Question: Stimulus Check – When will it actually arrive?

I went to the IRS website and it stated that my check should arrive by July 4th. July 4th is a holiday. I haven’t received any letters from the IRS but have confirmed that my address is correct on my form 1040. Are the checks arriving earlier than what is published at irs.gov? My last two of my ss# is 83. Please offer any answers especially if you have already received your check. Thanks.

Answer: Mine was to come June 13th. It arrived Sat the 14th. you should get a letter 3-4 days before it comes. Letter came Tues check came Sat.

IRS.gov Forms 2008

Question: IRS gave us wrong stimulus amount, help!?

Last year the IRS only gave us $600. We are a family of four. Initially when we received the money I thought it was correct because on the IRS website it stated that we could get UP to $1200 for a family of four. After filing our returns for 2008 it was discovered that we were indeed supposed to receive $1200 for our stimulus check. When I called the IRS to ask about it, they said in their computers it shows $1200 was deposited in May. Only $600 was deposited. He said to fill out form 3911 as found on irs.gov website. That form has nothing to do with my situation and I don’t know what to do from here. Please help!!
Yes, the mistake was on IRS end. The government screws up stuff all the time…example: the new stimulus bill (lol) yes, I have a bank statement showing only$600, and it is the only bank we have ever used with our taxes. And about form 3911, I guess I’m just confused because of the wording. This form looks like it should be filled out on their end.

Answer: You should have a bank record of the deposit, from the IRS, with the bank receipt. Check online, they should have the deposit date and the sender listed. Print the online record of the deposit, showing that it’s from the IRS, or use a copy of your bank statement if it’s obvious there. Call the IRS back and tell them that you have written proof that they didn’t send you the whole amount. Ask them who you can send it to, so that you can get the rebate for your missing $600.

Question: Need help with 2009 filing options?

So I went on IRS.gov and there’s so many pages of information that seems like it would take years to read. This is my second time filing taxes but first time looking at others forms then the 1040EZ. Does anyone have suggestions for what other forms and filings and I should look for? I’m going to a Private College and taking out loans for it. I drive (I’m not sure if that mileage is tax-exempt). I made about $20,000 last year. I just had a child but am not married. I live under my parents house but am over 18. I bought a car earlier this year and paying off the loan.

Answer: The college issues:

You may be eligible for the Hope Credit, the Lifetime Learning Credit, or student loan interest (read the qualifications first, Chpt 19, p133 on the Pub 17, link below).

The other issue is who can legally claim your exemption. If you are a full time college student and are under 24, it is possible that your parents can claim your exemption. You will need to do a dependency worksheet (on Pub 501, or Pub 17, or several other places http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p17.pdf Worksheet 3-1 p33 on this link) to calculate if you supported yourself more than 50%. If you made more than $20K, and you took out loans in your name for college, it is likely that you can, but do the worksheet to be sure.

With the child, you may be eligible for the earned income tax credit and/or the child tax credit and/or the additional child tax credit and/or child and dependent care credit. Four more things to look up.

Forget the car.

IRS.gov Forms 1099

Question: 1099-MISC form and W-2?

I am doing my boyfriends taxes by printing the forms off the IRS.GOV website…do I include the wages from the 1099-MISC form on the 1040-EZ, or is the 1040_EZ only for W-2’s? On the 1099 the only amounts listed are under non-employee compensation.

Answer: You can’t use Form 1040-EZ. You MUST use Form 1040 plus Schedule C or C-EZ. If the net income on the Schedule C is $400 or more you also need to attach Schedule SE to calculate the self-employment tax.
