Question: what should irs refund status say if I requested direct deposit?

Currenlty is says that it was “mailed” out on March 17th, 2006. Does this mean that they aren’t depositing it? Rather, I have to wait longer to get it by mail?

Answer: If it was “mailed” on 03-17-2006, then they have mailed a check. Possible reasons are that for some reason the bank wouldn’t accept the direct deposit (not likely), or you may have transposed a number in your bank routing number and/or account number (could be likely) or the IRS goofed (very likely). If you don’t get your check by next Friday, 03-24-2006, I’d give the IRS a call; contact numbers can be found at www.irs.gov.

Eight facts about filing status

Everyone who files a federal tax return must determine which filing status applies to them. It’s important you choose your correct filing status as it determines your standard deduction, the amount of tax you owe and ultimately, any refund owed to you.
