Irs Audit Status
Question: I filed my own taxes for free! I used the IRS website. It was stressful because anytime you deal …..?
with the IRS accuracy is so crucial. I think I did great! only time will tell. I highly reccomend this to anyone. I stress because last year my tax person gave my fiance bad advise and the IRS audited him and now he has to pay the full refund back not to meantion penalties. They also questioned my head of household status. Once I proved it I was ok however, Still a very stressfull situation. I guess if you keep it real and stay 100% legit you will be okay. I will have to let you all know how this unravels…
Answer: you should seek another tax service if you think that was too much stress

IRS Lawsuit Settlement
Question: Is an injury lawsuit settlement amount taxable?
If someone was to settle (out of court) for an injury lawsuit, would the amount awarded (after the lawyers 30% cut and such was dispersed) to the person who was hurt be taxable by the IRS come tax time? In other words would the person have to pay Taxes to Uncle Sam on the amount of money he/she received from the lawsuit settlement? (this takes place in the United States for this example)
in response to deesnuts…does this apply to all states or does this vary state to state?…and yes this would apply to a physical injury case out of court settlement (if they settled before they went to trial…say to avoid court costs and additional legal fees)
Answer: tax free money=According to the tax code, the only damages you can enjoy tax-free are those that compensate you for physical injury or physical sickness. (26 U.S.C. § 104(a).) So if this describes your case, you will probably keep the cash safely away from the grip of the IRS.
tax free is just that TAX FREE. non economic loss, your lawyer 30% is taxed as income. yours is non economic loss not taxable ask your lawyer he or she should know for your state. p.s. don’t just blow the money. be smart. make it grow. don’t tell anybody what you have. good luck. p.s.s. looking @ your ? could not reply, Smartest investment : GOLD is your best bet. it’s better than paper money.
