Question: Live in the US, but work for a Canadian Company?

I work from home, in the US, but work for a Canadian Company. I am a paid contractor. The Canadian company does not disclose to the US IRS about my earnings and does not send me a 1099. How do I report this income to the IRS? Does the IRS receive any other form from the Canadian government about my earnings? Thanks.

Answer: US law requires that the Canadian company report the payment on a 1099, even though it is not a US taxpayer. In addition, there are exchange of information provisions in the US-Canada income tax treaty.

If you are not an employee, then you must report this income on Schedule C.
