IRS Forms 1040a

IRS Forms 1040a

Question: How do I find out what I earned from working in 2008.?

I have no check stubs,or do I even know where I was working at that time.In addition to the original question if you could provide information on the differences between IRS forms 1040,1040A,1040EZ,because I have no clue.10 points…
My reason for not knowing where I worked in 2008 is I don’t give a sh*t.Where I work now along with where I worked then are the same in the reasons that they pay me sh*t,made me feel as important as sh*t,and the people I worked with were pieces of sh*t. I need this information so I can get to school so I can care.

8000 IRS Tax Credit Form

Question: $8000 new home owners tax credit?

I just have a couple questions about this new tax credit and I’m hoping someone can help :)
1) We are closing on a house in april Can we still get the money this year or do we have to wait until we file taxes new year?
2) Can we fill out the form on the irs website and send it in or does a tax person need to do it.

Can someone help and maybe explain more. Has anyone been through the process yet?
also I’m married and i filed seperatley. Does that affect anything???
ok since we did file seperate does that mean that we each can get $4000 which with equal $8000 or is it just $4000 total for both.

Answer: If you are Married Filing Separately, you can claim max of $4000 of the credit if you AND your spouse qualify. Now since you are married, both you and your spouse must not have owned a home within the 3-year period even if you filed as separate.

You can claim this credit either on your 2008 tax return or 2009 tax return if you and your spouse satisfy all requirements.

IRS Refund Email

IRS Refund Email

Question: Got an email from the IRS, how do I know it’s legitimate?

The email says I’m entitled to a refund and then wants me to click on this link: http://www.bertorotta.it/site/bertorotta.php

This looks like a spoofing attempt to me, does anyone know if this is really the IRS, and if it isn’t I’d like to know who I can forward this to at the IRS to let them know.
Thanks for the quick response quys:

Does anyone know who I could forward the email to at the IRS so they are aware of the spoofing attempt?

I tried searching on their site but didn’t get any good results. Not too surprised of course, giant government bureaucracies rarely make anything quick and easy.

Answer: Go to the IRS web site www.irs.gov and on the main page click the link “Warning on Scam E-Mails.”
This is from the IRS web site:

“IRS Warns Taxpayers of New E-mail Scams

Updated Sept. 19, 2007 — Another recent e-mail scam tells taxpayers that the IRS has calculated their “fiscal activity” and that they are eligible to receive a tax refund of a certain amount. Taxpayers receive a page of, or are sent to, a Web site (titled “Get Your Tax Refund!”) that copies the appearance of the genuine “Where’s My Refund?” interactive page on the genuine IRS Web site. Like the real “Where’s My Refund?” page, taxpayers are asked to enter their SSNs and filing status. However, the phony Web page asks taxpayers to enter their credit card account numbers instead of the exact amount of refund as shown on their tax return, as the real “Where’s My Refund?” page does. Moreover, the IRS does not send e-mails to taxpayers to advise them of refunds or to request financial information.”
