IRS Offices In Illinois

IRS Offices In Illinois

Question: Will a signed and scanned copy of the state tax filing be accepted ?

I was working in Chicago Illinois for a month or so in 2008 before I returned to my native country .While trying to file the taxes I found that I was able to Efile the federal tax returns, but for the state of illinois I was unable to file the state tax return since it requires you to either have a state id or a Illinois drivers license

Since I am currently not in the US and it would take postal mail nearly a week or so to reach the Illinois tax office if sent from my country, would it be accepted if I can sign and scan the state tax return and send it the scanned copy along with other documents to my relatives there who can then put in an envelope and send it to the IRS

Please give your inputs as to the signed and scanned copy would be accepted as legitimate,I just want to ensure the taxes are filed before April 15th ( I know I am late in doing it …)

Answer: A foreign postmark will be considered proof of timely filing. Use registered mail if you want proof.

Taxpayers can expect few surprises filing this year

Notable variations include a changed deadline of April 18.

Change IRS Address Online

Question: Can my employer re-do my W-2 Form, and send it back to me?

When I recieve my W-2 Forms, some information was incorrect. Such as, a number was wrong with my SS#, my name was missing my middle name, and the address was off a bit on one. I contacted my previous employer and they told me to give the the right information and they will correct it and send it back to me? Is that right, because this is my first time filing, and having a job! Can I recieve another W-2 Form, or will I have to ask them to file W-2c Form with the SSA. I wanted to file online and you can’t with the W-2c Form. What should I tell her? Can I recieve a redo from my employer and just ask them to change in their system? Then, will I be able to file with Efile on the IRS site? Please help!

Answer: yes they can correct it. In the future you should not worry about your middle name missing or the address of by one. The only important parts are your SS# and the amount. Once they issue you a W-2, they can only correct it. They can not delete the first one. Just go with it and learn from this. Employers do not try and mess up W-2′s.

Tax deadline is extended to April 18

The Internal Revenue Service opened the 2011 tax filing season in January by announcing that taxpayers have until April 18 to file their tax returns. The IRS reminded taxpayers impacted by recent tax law changes that using e-file is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds.

Question: Why does the U.S. have the Federal Office of Inspector General?

Please review what the Inspector General does for the country by clicking on this website. The Inspector General is a section of the U.S. Government.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspector_General#United_States

Especially in a time where the U.S. is starting to take over companies and wanting to take over Health Care, why is it that the Inspector General is Auditing the U.S. Meaning they are being audited by themselves.

Corporations can barely be transparent and accurate about their financials when independent auditors are performing the audit.

Do we expect our government to show where its screwing up, committing fraud, paying off politicians for votes, and spending our tax dollars like their personal piggie bank when they audit themselves?

Answer: Can we expect them to be transparent? Yeah. Pretty much. Their reports which castigate government waste, fraud, and excesses are freely available online.

Now, if they sided with the government a whole lot? Then I’d buy the bias line, but their results say otherwise.

Enemies of the Middle Class

With less than one quarter of 2011 gone, we have seen the spread of three revolutions. The first is literal. It is happening in North Africa. The second is intellectual: the acceptance by large numbers of voters of a shutdown of the United States government, which is deemed to be out of control.

Irs Collection Number

Question: Misuse of social security numbers linked to debts?

I have a friend who attended nursing school funded by a local city agency. She last attended school in 1986. Sometime in 2001 she was contacted by a debt collection agency trying to collect on a debt for someone with the same name, social security number, but different school as well as different date of attendance being 1991. Because the debt was about the same amount, she thought it was hers and didn’t demand verification. Also, she wasnt’ at that time very consumer savvy on her rights. Because she made a payment, the agency attached her tax return on subsequent filings thereby involving the IRS at this point. She is on welfare and cannot afford legal counsel, but I know she’s entitled to free advocacy through the system. Who should I hit up first? There are about a thousand choices out there.

Thanks,

Debra

Answer: Debra:

It’s difficult to answer this question, because it’s not clear who funded this loan. If the US Department of Education was involved, as either the maker of the loan, or the guarantor, they would be the first choice for your appeal, starting, perhaps, with the Ombudsman’s Office at the Department.

However, you mentioned that she attended school “funded by a local city agency”, so that makes it sound like the Department of Education had no role in the financing. If that’s the case, the Department would most likely refuse to get involved.

Obviously, you’re going to run up against additional obstacles related to the age of this loan – I’m wondering if this “city agency” is even in existence any more, let alone the program that the loan was made under.

There are a lot of issues here, and to really identify the right resource, anyone trying to help you would really need to know more of the details.

For example, there is a statute of limitations on the collection of many kinds of debts – at most, it’s 20 years if the creditor obtained a judgment. However, changes in the bankruptcy laws a few years back made student loans a whole different kind of animal from other forms of debt. I imagine that this debt qualifies as student loan debt, but I’m not sure, without knowing the details.

For one thing, by now, your friend should have filed a police report. You’ll need documentation to “fight” this misdirected claim, and that’s the first step. Given the complexity and the lack of details, I suppose the next logical step would be to contact the Consumer Affairs Department for your state. Lawyers at that agency should be able to provide you with the best possible advice about how to substantiate your fraud claim, and how to most effectively work with the collection agency to call off the sharks.

I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a more specific answer, but I wish you the very best of luck. With enough perseverance, I am confident that you will get this resolved. Thanks, also, for being such a good advocate for your needy friend.
